East Coast Family Road Trip: Day 8

Indianapolis, IN to STL
3,078 miles.
One adult, three children.
New states for the kids: 16
New country for the kids: Canada
Regions covered: Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ontario, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Washington D.C.
Kids’ favorite excursion: Niagara Falls and the beach in Maine.
Mom’s favorite part: getting to see new and old friends.
Encounters with law enforcement officers on this trip: four (that sounds excessive)
1. Highway patrolman pulled over to see why I was stopped on the shoulder in Vermont. Didn’t appreciate my humor.
2. M.P. stopped me on post at West Point for blowing a stop sign in the complete darkness of night.
3. Another M.P. ten minutes later scolded me for driving down a “Do Not Enter” area. He was kind of a dick.
4. Driving into Arlington Cemetery, a bicycle cop “pulled me over” for backing up in an undesignated area. He explained how if I’m getting ready to drive some place that I should figure out how to get there beforehand. All this sage advice from a 26 year old wearing a fanny pack and bike shorts.
Tickets issued for moving violations: none. (Did get parking ticket in Arlington, VA. Bugger!) Okay, I get it. I’m a shitty driver. There, are you satisfied?

Are we home now?? Sorry I missed you when you were in my neck of the woods. Backing up in an undesignated area? What the hell is that anyway? At least the NYSP left you alone.
